From a dream to reality, how it all began!
All dreams have to start somewhere – often these dreams are the birth of hard times and disappointment that have come our way. This was true for me. In South Africa the Game Ranging profession was historically very much a ‘man’s world.’ Consequently I shelved my dreams of becoming a wildlife guide and pursued a career as an Executive Secretary / Personal Assistant for a Director in a multi-national construction company.
But my drive to introduce people to nature and show them beautiful things they had never seen before, remained. After experiencing numerous retrenchments, I decided during the year 2000 to pack up and head for London for a few months.
On my return flight, the South African flag burned in my heart and I longed to share my passion and love for South Africa Safaris, its wildlife, nature and its people, with the rest of the world.
Without me knowing it, the seed of my own safari and tour operating company was sown and a dream was being birthed. I was under no illusions that this dream would take hard work and dedication but I was up for the challenge.
The first step was to become a qualified wildlife / tourist guide, which took four years of part-time study while working full-time as an office administrator. Balancing my day job with getting Imvelaphi Safaris off the ground took hard work and dedication. The next step, in 2006, was to register my company, Imvelaphi Safaris. The name IMVELAPHI is a Xhosa word which means: the route you travel to reach your destination. The name couldn’t have been more apt as my feet where firmly planted on my path to fulfill my dream.
I had to take small, but purposeful steps, to realize my dream and purpose. At the end of 2007 I took that final leap and resigned from full-time employment to pick up my dream and forge ahead with Imvelaphi Safaris.
It is no small feat to be an emerging entrepreneur and to break through the South African Tourism Industry. It has taken years of hard work to build a business with a good reputation that clients know they can depend on.
It is going beyond hard work; one has to show perseverance, commitment and passion in order to see the fruit of a successful business. Standing my ground in a very competitive industry has also meant that I have had to set my own course for Imvelaphi Safaris. As a woman, I have had to be strong, yet never lose the feminine touch in delivering personalized tourism services.
Over the years I received numerous awards and accolades that bear testament to my dedication, love and passion for what I do.
Life is an adventure, complete with ups and downs. As the name implies, at Imvelaphi Safaris we know where we come from and we know where we are going.
If I can provide guests with a world-class service and assist others by sharing what I have learned, then I am helping to grow the future of the tourism industry and that is success indeed.
Through our unique and diverse South African Safari packages, we aim to provide you with an unforgettable experience that exceeds your expectations in every way.
